Farm to Table Move Mode and Building Fixes
How to move kitchen equipment, counters, and dining tables after Update 1.0.120, plus what to check when chefs report a workstation as unreachable.
Quick answer
If you are trying to rearrange the restaurant, use Move Mode first. Update 1.0.120 changed the old Remove Mode flow by letting players move kitchen equipment, counters, and dining tables instead of deleting and rebuilding every object.
If a chef says a workstation is unreachable after you move things around, do not rebuild the whole kitchen immediately. First check the path to the station, the counter route, and whether the station is already occupied or blocked. Hotfix 1.0.122 fixed a false unreachable report, so older complaints may not match the current build.
What changed in Update 1.0.120
The important change is simple: moving is now a normal build action for more restaurant objects. Kitchen equipment, counters, and dining tables can be moved with Move Mode.
Removal was split into its own action. That matters because old advice about using Remove Mode to fix a bad layout can now be confusing. In the newer build, decide whether you want to move an object or delete it before you start changing the room.
- Use Move Mode when the object is still useful but placed badly.
- Use the separate removal action only when you really want the object gone.
- Move one object at a time, then test staff movement before changing the next object.
- Be extra careful with counters and cooking stations because one moved object can break the chef-to-counter route.
Safe checklist before moving a kitchen
- Do layout work during prep or downtime, not while customers are waiting for active orders.
- Keep one clear walking path from ingredient storage to cooking stations.
- Keep one clear walking path from cooking stations to the service counter.
- Do not place counters so their usable side faces a wall, blocked tile, or decorative object.
- After moving a stove, fryer, oven, counter, or table, watch one staff action before moving the next object.
- If the layout breaks, undo the last move mentally first; the most recent change is usually the useful clue.
Chef says the workstation is unreachable
This is now a patch-sensitive problem. Hotfix 1.0.122 says chefs could mistakenly report a workstation as unreachable, so a screenshot from an older build is not enough to prove the current behavior.
Still, the message is worth checking seriously. A station can be reachable to the player but awkward for staff if the approach tile, station side, or counter route is blocked.
- Check whether the chef can physically walk to the station without crossing furniture.
- Check whether the output counter or service counter has open space.
- Check whether another object is placed against the station side the chef wants to use.
- Check whether the recipe ingredient is missing; a production problem can look like a station problem when you are rushing.
- If the path is clean and the error repeats, record the build number, station, layout, and wait reason before calling it a bug.
Walls, windows, and build-mode problems
Recent Steam discussion topics show players still asking about walls, windows, and moving objects. That does not prove one universal bug, but it does tell us which build problems deserve a clear troubleshooting page.
For now, keep wall and window advice conservative until we capture fresh footage in the current build. The safe checks are mode, funds, grid conflicts, blocked furniture, and whether the object belongs on that surface.
- Make sure you are in the correct build mode for the object type.
- Clear furniture away from the wall or floor tile before placing structural pieces.
- Check money and required materials before assuming the placement preview is bugged.
- Rotate or reposition the camera if the grid highlight is hard to read.
- Do not publish exact wall/window rules until a current-build clip confirms them.
What to capture next
- One short clip showing Move Mode moving a kitchen station, counter, and dining table.
- A before-and-after screenshot of a broken chef route fixed by moving one object.
- A clip where the workstation unreachable message appears with the build number visible if possible.
- Wall and window placement screenshots that show which surfaces accept each piece.
- Whether moving a station refunds, preserves, or resets any active production state.
